Elephant and Mouse live together and are the best of friends. On Christmas Eve, they hang stockings--a huge one for Elephant, a little one for Mouse. But Elephant gets up in the middle of the night and switches stockings in a gesture of true friendship. Later, Santa, realizing what the generous pachyderm has done, sneaks a second huge stocking from Elephant's drawer and fills both stockings before departing. Stilted basal-like language is matched by generic full-color illustrations. Christmas porridge instead of pudding.
